Criteria: Books published in 2019 by a Manitoba publisher may be entered into one of three categories: 1) book design, 2) children's illustrated, 3) general illustration (including photography, use of archival images and more). Graphic Novel will not be presented in 2020.
Books submitted to the design category will be judged on the overall design of the entire book (with an emphasis on typography and cover design) including artistic merit, innovation of form, quality of production values, and appropriateness to the intended market. The design category is for primarily text-based books.
Books submitted to either the general illustration or children’s illustrated category will be judged on artistic merit, innovation of form, quality of production values, and appropriateness to the intended market; specifically on illustrations including drawings, paintings, photographs and other artwork.

- All genres are eligible. Books may only be submitted in one of the three categories (see above)
- Publishers must meet eligibility guidelines as follows: Have their head office of business in Manitoba for at least one year; are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants; or are corporations fully owned or controlled by institutions or associations chartered in Canada which are at least 80% controlled by persons who are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants; are effectively controlled as to their managerial, editorial and financial decisions by persons who are resident in Manitoba and are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
- Submitted books must have been published between January 1 and December 31, 2019. Revised editions must have at least 25% new material and significantly new design.
Books submitted for this award may also be submitted to all other pertinent categories. Publishers must send four (4) copies of any eligible books to:

All entries must be made through the online form by November 18, 2019. Books published between January 1 and October 31 must be sent to the address above and postmarked by November 18, 2019. Books published between November 1 and December 31 must be postmarked by January 10, 2020, and will only be accepted if the online entry form was submitted by November 18, 2019.
